Just beyond the Star Ferry is a tall red-and-white 45-metre tall Clock Tower that looks rather lost and lonely among the modern building at the tip of the Kowloon Peninsula. The clock is all that remains of the Hong Kong Railway Station (1916) there once upon a time you could hop a train all the way to Paris. The Clock Tower itself was built in 1922. The Edwardian-style station was torn down in 1978 and replaced by ultra-modern Hong Kong Cultural Centre in 1989.
